MIX OF THE WEEK: Goddard

(Andrew) Goddard is an electronic music producer and DJ from Northamptonshire, United Kingdom. An artist with an impressively varied sonic palette, Goddard has travelled an interesting path before arriving at his current resting place within the electronic community.

Initially inspired by the Drum and Bass institution of Hospital Records, the now London-based artist’s relationship with electronic music has seen him hold a presence in House, Techno and ambient genres - creating a platform for an exploratory journey into emotive and enriching sound.

Citing influence from artists like Maribou State, Bonobo, Etherwood and Keeno. Goddard now finds himself fusing the experience of his past with his love for Drum and Bass to create a boundless end product that can be described as limitless and freestanding electronic music - not defined by genre or concept. Very much a musician’s musician, he is a firm believer in the ‘fewer samples and more writing’ ethos - allowing him to harness a standout sonic signature and set him apart from the crowd.

Goddard’s current perspective comes as the result of a successful production pairing, in the form of ‘ag.’. The duo (formed whilst he was studying his Masters in Music & Management at Leeds University) went on somewhat of a rollercoaster ride, consisting of over 60 tracks in 6 months and induction onto Warner Chappel’s (A&R) artist development program. An ambient electronic duo inspired by the likes of Burial, Four Tet and Maribou State; ag. laid the foundations for Goddard’s unique take on electronic dance tracks, inspired by liquid and downtempo DnB - something that has already piqued the interest of some of the industry’s biggest names.

Using his newly formed ‘polaroid’ platform, Goddard has created an outlet to share his new artistic persona with the masses in the form of a free download each month - giving returning visitors and new fans a frequent dose of his refreshing and captivating creativity. Most recently, ‘Pecking Order’ received support from London Elektricity on their Hospital Records Podcast - tipping a hat at things to come from this promising electronic talent.

No stranger to revered club spaces and heavyweight lineups in the past, Goddard’s new direction and unprecedented imagination are the building blocks for one of the UK’s most promising up and coming artists.
